And Jobs most certainly did not hurt Apple with his management style by suppressing ideas. First of all, his record of success is so far beyond the ordinary that it's hard to say "it could have been better if only..." But the real reason that argument fails is because it isn't true - Steve was intimately involved in even the smallest details, but that doesn't mean he did everything. Imagine having your idea/code/project validated and amplified by a Steve Jobs. Sure, he tore down people - lots of people, an often rather cruelly - but he also praised their work (I've personally seen him do the latter, not the former). That's why people worked for him. Steve didn't design anything - Jony Ives did. Steve didn't come up with Apple's revolutionary supply chain (that's Tim Cook, now CEO Tim Cook) or write a single line of code (this is Steve Jobs we're talking about, not Gates or Zuckerberg. Different type of genius). Some people may have given Steve credit for doing everything, but he never took it.<br /><br />Finally, there IS an element of eulogy in the articles you're reading that precludes focusing on his faults because the only reason Steve is stepping down from Apple's CEO spot is due to his health. He's not retiring to play golf. I was talking to journalists yesterday who said they had written obits when he first announced he had cancer a few years ago, and when he announced his resignation last week they ran them. That's why they sound like eulogies. They are.Avi Greengarthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14267040237664555562noreply@blogger.com
